Welcome to the second issue of this special edition of the GCoM Newsletter. For the coming months, GCoM will be sending a regular newsletter to share latest updates, resources, and references to COVID-19-related efforts - across our Regional Covenants, from our partners, and in local governments. We hope these newsletters will be able to provide valuable support and resources, in the most active and efficient way possible.
The Global Covenant of Mayors is working closely with all of our global and regional partners to share some of the latest information, tools, and resources for cities around COVID-19.
C40 Cities
C40 Cities announced the launch of the Global Mayors COVID-19 Recovery Task Force to improve public health, reduce inequality and accelerate sustainable economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.

Participants from more than 240 cities around the world, including mayors, local leaders, and members of response teams, joined Bloomberg Philanthropies’ fifth virtual COVID-19 Local Response Initiative convening on April 16, where Bill Gates and Michael Bloomberg addressed the mayors on the challenges associated with the pandemic. UCLG, Metropolis, and UN-Habitat have launched a live learning experience with local and regional governments which, through solidarity and political will, are pushing more than ever to fulfill their critical role. They are working to carry out an affordable and fair service delivery, fostering the preservation of the commons, and promoting human rights.
The CoM SSA website has published a list of resources, that will be updated regularly to include relevant information to African city leaders in various languages (EN, FR, PT).
City policy responses to COVID-19-the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions, and Cities (CFE), in collaboration with the OECD Working Party for Urban Policy and the OECD Champion Mayors Initiative for Inclusive Growth, has developed a note that provides examples of measures taken by cities to respond to the current coronavirus epidemic.
